At Teen Heart Project, our mission is to prevent Young Sudden Cardiac Death (YSCD) through increased awareness and proactive screening. We believe that every young person deserves the chance to lead a healthy life, free from the risks associated with undiagnosed heart conditions.
We provide heart screening clinics for young people across the UK focussing on schools and sports clubs, ensuring that young athletes and students have access to essential heart health screenings. While major UK sports and dance authorities recommend ECG screening for their participants we believe all teenagers should have access to cardiac screening.
By comparison, every week seven 17–29-year-olds die in UK road accidents (UK Gov, 2023)
The Teen Heart Project was co-founded by Dr. James Cockburn, a leading UK cardiologist who is trained in all aspects of cardiology and has worked with professional sportspeople. Alongside him is Miles Worne, who has a background in European healthcare and sports nutrition. Together, we are dedicated to improving heart health among young people.
We partner with schools and colleges across the UK to promote heart health awareness.
In addition to schools, we also work with youth sports clubs with teams aged 16 to 18. The organization’s leads and coaches play a crucial role in supporting the sign-up of parents and guardians for our services
"I had a medical emergency after a rugby tournament which I later found out was due to an undiagnosed heart condition. I was really lucky to make a full recovery after treatment by Dr James Cockburn and was back enjoying sports soon after. I was shocked to discover how easily my condition could have been picked up if I had had a ten minute ECG and a cardiac specialist listening to my heart. Everyone should have these checks and I think the Teen Heart Project, led by James, is a brilliant initiative. I couldn't recommend this more strongly"
